The guidelines for disease prevention and keeping well (of which most of us are aware) on the whole, are pretty clear:
From a naturopathic perspective, I'd add to the mix:
Check-in with your naturopath at least yearly to gauge any symptoms or health issues to prevent ailments from worsening. Signs and symptoms are an excellent barometer for drawing attention to underlying issues that can be addressed naturopathically and may require further testing. For example, testing for genetic influences on methylation and other areas as well as analysis of the gut microbiome.
This can all seem simple and just common sense however it is often a struggle for many to maintain good health as the body changes. As the body is getting older, even though one may look truly youthful it requires quite significant dietary and lifestyle adjustments. Altering eating and other lifestyle factors are often tremendously difficult to implement and stick to. This is further complicated by the barrage of information available from multiple forums which can often lead to confusion and analysis paralysis.
Whether the challenge is dealing with aches and pains, perimenopausal weight gain, sleep concerns, middle age spread, low energy or mood or the desire for disease prevention and longevity: a naturopathic and wholistic approach has a crucial role to play in assessing and educating clients then providing clarity and tools for living a healthy yet balanced lifestyle to age well.
