As we age, the thought of menopause usually brings to mind an array of unwelcome symptoms, but are many overlooked benefits to this stage of life.

Are these among the first symptoms that come to mind when you think of menopause? Hot flashes, vaginal dryness, weight gain, mood swings, thinning hair and sleep disruptions. Chances are that you answered yes! As the saying goes, every cloud has a silver lining and this is certainly is the case with menopause. And I come bearing good news, there are some pretty great (often overlooked) upsides to menopause:

  • We no longer get periods
  • We can say goodbye to PMS
  • We are wiser
  • We are more experiences
  • We know how to be kinder to ourselves
  • Our friendships are meaningful and have history
  • We tell the truth…and know when someone isn’t
  • We can get into bed by 9:30pm (with no shame)
  • We don't give two f***s any more
  • We are better in the sack…yes, this is a fact
  • We own the 90’s
    • Some women experience "menopausal zest", a term coined by anthropologist, Margaret Read, which is essentially a rush of energy, both physical and psychological. It can give us a fresh perspective on our lives, relationships, career, the ways we look after ourselves and the ways we want to expend our energy moving forward. You could look at it as a timely "wakeup call", giving us an opportunity to reassess the direction we're heading both professionally and personally to make sure it's in alignment with what we want for our lives.

With decades of life experience through relationships, raising children, and forging our careers, we are equipped with the wisdom to know what we want and to go after it with confidence and a knowing that we can handle anything that comes our way.

Finally, as our children become more independent and our careers more established, we may have more time to take care of ourselves. There is no better time for a complete health overhaul and there's plenty of supportive things we can do, including, nourishing ourselves with the right foods, taking herbal remedies, practicing stress reducing techniques and implementing movement practices into our every day.
